The same kind of letter, worded differently, lets a child travel with one parent. It is a short statement, signed by the father, confirming he agrees to his wife acting as the sponsor on their child's UAE residence visa. It is used when the mother, not the father, holds the sponsorship: for example when she is the one employed in the UAE, when the father lives abroad, or when the parents are separated. The letter does not transfer parental rights and does not change custody. It records the father's consent to one administrative act: the mother sponsoring the child's visa. If the father's name is written differently in the child's birth certificate and in his passport, we note both spellings in the letter, so the immigration officer can match them. It says the parent who is not travelling agrees to the child travelling with the other parent. The details that matter: * the child's and both parents' full names and passport numbers; * the parent the child travels with; * the destination, any transit country, and the departure and return dates; * a phone number for the consenting parent during the trip; * an end date, so the letter covers this trip only. A no objection letter from the father for a child to travel with the mother is the most common version. The reverse, a letter from the mother when the child travels with the father, follows the same wording. In that case one letter signed by both parents, or two matching letters, is prepared. Both parents' IDs are attached. Case by case ## The hard cases ### The father lives outside the UAE He signs where he is: before an accredited UAE consul, who may notarise under Article 3 of Federal Decree-Law No. 20 of 2022, or before a notary in his country, followed by attestation for use in the UAE. The UAE is not a party to the Hague Apostille Convention, so an apostille alone is not the end of the route. We draft the letter so he can sign it abroad without changes. ### The parents are separated or divorced If there is a custody order, the NOC must fit it. We refer to the order by court and date and do not write anything the order does not allow. If the order already gives the mother the right to sponsor, the office may accept the order instead of a NOC. ### The father will not sign A NOC is consent, and it cannot be written for someone who refuses. The question then goes to court, and the mother needs an advocate. ### The father is the sponsor of the mother If the mother is on the father's sponsorship, the child is usually sponsored by the father too, and a NOC from husband to wife is not the right document. Check the sponsorship arrangement first. ## Why a notarized NOC A letter signed at home proves only that a signature exists. A notarized NOC has been signed before a notary who verified the father's identity from his ID, checked his capacity and consent, and read the content out to him. That check is what the receiving office relies on. The notary's fee depends on how the NOC is drafted: under the federal schedule, a signature authentication is AED 200 per party and an affidavit is AED 300 (Cabinet Resolution No. 19 of 2024). ## How we help We ask what the NOC is for: a visa, a trip, or both. A visa NOC is used for months or years; a travel NOC should end with the trip. Combining them makes the travel consent open-ended. ### Does the NOC from father to sponsor the child by mother need to be in Arabic? A NOC notarised in Dubai is prepared in Arabic, or in English with an Arabic translation, so we prepare it bilingually. ### Can the mother sign the NOC on the father's behalf? No. The NOC records the father's own consent, so he signs it himself, or through an agent appointed under a power of attorney that specifically covers it. ### How long is a NOC for a child visa valid? The letter is valid for what it says. If the immigration office sets its own time limit on accepting NOCs, that limit applies. ### Where can I get a notarized NOC in Dubai?
